Julien Royer is a Paris-based artist and graphic designer. Employing diverse techniques in his work, he focuses on pointillism (dotwork) and typically adheres to black-and-white scales, although colour has made a cameo in his work on a few rare occasions.
Royer is inspired by classic allegorical etchings and symbolisms such as the biblical works of Gustave Doré, the principles of alchemy, the chimera monsters of Greek mythology and even the intricate realm of tattoo art. He tends to connect his works to words from a broad range of music forms to aid in precisely threading the viewer’s sense of understanding as they interpret the details of his work.
